When to Book a Birth Photographer | Scotland Birth Photography

Welcoming your baby into the world is one of the most powerful moments of your life. It’s raw, emotional, transformative, and often a little hazy in hindsight. That’s why so many families choose to work with a birth photographer in Scotland: so they can be fully present in the moment, knowing their story is being gently and respectfully documented.

One of the most common questions I receive is:

“When should we book our birth photographer?”

The Best Time to Book Your Birth Photographer

Because birth is wonderfully unpredictable, the best time to reach out to your birth photographer is during your first and/or second trimester, ideally around 15–24 weeks pregnant. Birth photographers limit the number of families we take on each month. Because we are on call 24/7 around your estimated due date, we can only support a small number of families at one time. Booking early helps ensure your space is secured.

If you’re hoping for home birth photography or hospital birth photography, early booking also gives us time to connect properly before your baby arrives.

FAQ: Can I book a birth photographer in my third trimester?
Yes, sometimes! It depends on availability, so it’s always worth reaching out as soon as possible to check.

Why Booking Early Matters

When you book your birth photographer early:

  • You have space to ask questions without feeling rushed.

  • We can meet, in person and/or on video, to build trust and comfort.

  • Your photographer can block off your due date and remain on call around it.

  • You get peace of mind knowing this part of your journey is already taken care of.

At Marieke Captures Birth, after we’ve connected, I’ll be on call for you from around 38 weeks onward. No matter when your baby decides to arrive, day or night, early or late, I’ll be ready to come be with you and gently document your story as it unfolds. Birth is unpredictable. But your support team doesn’t have to be.

Can You Book Later in Pregnancy?

If you’re in your third trimester and just discovering birth photography in Scotland, please don’t worry!

Sometimes I do have availability, it simply depends on how many families are due around the same time. It is always worth reaching out to check.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you enquire.

If you feel drawn to having your baby’s story documented, that quiet instinct is usually enough.

Your birth only happens once. And having it photographed allows you to see the strength in yourself, the support around you, and the very first moments of your baby’s life in a way you simply can’t from memory alone.

If you’re considering booking a birth photographer in Scotland, I would love to hear your story and explore whether we’re the right fit.
