Birth Photography Mentoring

For photographers who want to move into birth, and for those already doing this work who want to go deeper. Tailored entirely to you.

Why this exists

Scotland needs more birth photographers who truly understand this work.

Scotland needs more birth photographers who truly understand this work.

I hear it too often on the client side: families who booked a birth photographer and felt let down. Not always by the photographs, but by the experience. By someone who didn't quite understand the weight of what birth photography asks of you.

That's why I mentor. Because the more skilled, grounded, and ethically led birth photographers Scotland has, the better it is for every family who chooses to have their birth documented.

I still remember how scary it was to step into the birth space for the first time myself. The questions I had. The uncertainty. I had to find the answers on my own, and I wish I'd had someone to turn to. Allow me to be that person for you.

But mentoring isn't only for those just starting out. Some of the most valuable conversations I have are with photographers who are already active: who have attended births, built a client base, and are doing good work, but who have specific stumbling blocks they want to work through.

Wherever you are in your journey, there is a version of this mentoring built for you.

How it works

Before we speak, you'll complete a short questionnaire. I want to know what you're hoping to learn, where you feel uncertain, and what you most want to take away. That means our time together is shaped entirely by what you actually need.

We can go as broad or as specific as you like. Some photographers come with a long list of questions. Others come with one thing they've been wrestling with for months.

Sessions take place online and can be arranged around your schedule. The 9-month programme also includes in-person meetings and the opportunity to shadow during a birth.

Every session is built around you, not a fixed curriculum.
