Birth Photography in Glasgow & Central Scotland
Because This Moment Deserves to Be Celebrated
THE BIRTH OF YOUR BABY
If you’re here, there’s a good chance you’re feeling a mix of curiosity, uncertainty, and quiet knowing.
You might be wondering if birth photography is really for you: if it will feel supportive or intrusive. If it will add calm, or add another layer to an already intense experience.
Those questions matter.
Birth is not something to take lightly, and neither is inviting someone into that space. This page exists to help you understand not just what birth photography is, but what it can give you: emotionally, practically, and long after the day itself.
I offer birth photography in Glasgow and across the Central Belt of Scotland, working with families who want to feel safe, understood, and deeply supported during one of the most transformative moments of their lives.
There is so much happening during birth: the hours around labour and delivery can be intense, chaotic, quiet, beautiful, and overwhelming all at once. So much is happening, both inside and around you, that many parents come away feeling like parts of it were a blur.
This is where conscious documentation makes a difference.
Choosing a birth photographer means:
A trusted presence is there to witness your strength, so you don’t carry those hours alone
The tender and powerful moments you might not consciously register in real time are gently captured
Your partner is free to be present with you, supported, rather than managing a camera
You get tangible photographs that honours your experience without staging or performance
It’s the story for your little one documented, cause how many of us exactly know the story of our very own birth?
Your Birth Story, Beautifully Told
‘‘EVERYONE SHOULD
HAVE A BIRTH
PHOTOGRAPHER’’
Trust first: always
One of the biggest concerns parents have is this:
“Will it feel strange having someone there?”
That’s why the work begins long before labour does.
Time is taken to truly get to know you: through conversations, meet‑ups, and ongoing contact if needed. We talk about your hopes, your fears, your boundaries, and the people who will be present at your birth.
For you, this means:
You are not meeting a stranger during labour
Your partner, children, and/or grandparents know who I am and why I’m there
Everyone in the room understands my role: quiet, respectful, unobtrusive
When birth begins, familiarity creates ease. Ease creates safety.
And safety changes everything.
Working alongside your midwife, doula, and birth team
It’s very common to worry about how a birth photographer will be received by your care providers.
You can feel reassured knowing that I have trusted, professional relationships with many midwives, doulas, and birth workers across Scotland, including hospital settings.
Birth photography is becoming increasingly recognised as a valuable form of support, and if this is something you’re unsure about, it’s always encouraged to talk it through.
For parents, this means:
Clear communication, not tension
Respect for medical staff and birth workers at all times
A calm, professional presence that understands clinical and emotional boundaries
Everyone is there for the same reason: your well-being and your baby’s safe arrival.

Thoughtful preparation: because birth is unpredictable
It is very rare that a birth unfolds exactly as planned.
That’s why preparation is about more than a single vision.
Together, we take time to talk through your birth plan in detail: including your ideal scenario, preferences, and boundaries, as well as your backup plans and alternative pathways.
This allows me to:
To only document what you want to have documented, you are always in control of what is documented and what is not.
Understand what matters most to you and your partner
Anticipate moments that may feel especially significant or sensitive
Adapt calmly and effortlessly if plans change
For you, this means that there is no communication necessary anymore once the birth unfolds: we’ve already discussed everything more. Meaning there is all the space to stay present in your body and with your baby.
Birth photography is not just a job: it’s an on‑call commitment that requires full presence, flexibility, and emotional availability.
To offer this level of care, I work with a limited number of families each year.
For parents, this means:
You are not competing for attention
You receive dedicated support throughout your on‑call period
Your birth is met with energy, focus, and care, not exhaustion or rush
This approach ensures that the work you receive is not only beautiful but deeply considered and emotionally grounded.
This is luxury rooted in time, care, and intention.

‘‘Marieke is the only person in the world I would ever trust to document the birth of my baby. From the moment we met, I felt completely at ease and I knew I wanted her as my photographer. The photographs are beyond anything I could have imagined: raw, beautiful, and full of love.
Every time I look at them, I’m transported right back to that incredible day.
She didn’t just take photos; she told the story of our baby’s arrival with such care. ‘‘
