IT IS SO NICE TO MEET YOU

Hello! I’m Marieke (Mar-ee-kah), the photographer behind Marieke Captures Birth.

Born in the Netherlands, hence the funny name!, but now calling Glasgow my home.

I always imagined myself working in the world of birth. I once thought that meant becoming a midwife, but life had a different—and truly beautiful—path in mind. In 2020, I photographed my first birth. The timing aligned perfectly, I stepped into that room with my camera, and everything clicked. I was completely hooked.

Since then, I’ve had the honour of documenting a wide range of births: at home, in hospital, and in theatre for caesareans. Every birth is its own powerful story, a blend of strength, vulnerability, and love. It deserves to be remembered.

Birth photography is still fairly new here in Scotland, but it’s growing, and I’m proud to be part of that shift. I’m endlessly fascinated by the entire journey, from pregnancy to birth to those first moments holding your baby, and it’s a privilege to preserve these memories for families.

MY WAY OF LIFE

When I’m not behind the lens, you can find me on the dance floor, gaming, making a sourdough loaf, or cosy curled up at home with a book in my hands. Whenever I get the chance, I love to go out for hikes with my beautiful partner and our dog.

Would you like to get to know me better? Follow me on my social media channels to see every day behind-the-scenes glimpses.

Thank you for being here, and maybe one day I’ll be lucky enough to document your life-changing moments.
