Birth Photographer Glasgow & Central Scotland
Documentary birth & maternity photography - so you can be fully present while your story is unfolding.
You are about to do something extraordinary.
Most people don't remember every moment of their birth. Instead, they remember how it felt. Who was in the room. Whether they felt safe.
That sense of safety doesn't happen by accident. It's built, carefully and over time, through the months before your birth begins.
Before I ever enter your birth space, we will have met properly. You'll know how I move, where I'll stand, and what I will never do without your say-so. You'll have already seen me at your maternity shoot: watching how you move, how your partner supports you, what makes you laugh. By the time labour begins, my presence in that room will feel as natural as your midwife's.
That preparation is not a nice extra. It is everything.

‘‘Wish I could have a 4th baby just so she could photograph us again!’’
‘‘She was on call for four weeks: my son kept us waiting until 42 weeks. I will be forever grateful for the beautiful and intimate moments she caught for us. I almost wish I could have a 4th baby just so she could photograph us again.’’

The Process
I move through your birth the way a midwife moves.
Everything is documentary. Nothing staged, nothing directed. What you see in the photographs is what happened: true to the moment, true to you.
Before your birth
We meet as many times as you need. Your maternity session is part of this: you get used to my camera, my movement, my presence. By the time labour starts, there is nothing unfamiliar about me.
During your birth
From 38 to 42 weeks, I am fully on call: day or night, in hospital, at home, or in theatre. I stay for as long as your birth unfolds. No rushing, no clock-watching.
Throughout everything
You are always in complete control. Consent is not a courtesy here; it is the foundation on which everything else is built.
Every part of your story, beautifully told
Birth
Full documentary coverage: hospital, home, or theatre, from first contraction to first breath.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
Meet Marieke
I always imagined myself in the world of birth. I once thought that meant becoming a midwife. Life had a different, and truly beautiful, path in mind.
I take only a small number of births each year. Not because I have to: because it's the only way I can give each family the preparation and presence they deserve. Those weeks of being on call are weeks I give entirely to you.
Based at my studio in Glasgow, I've been trusted by families across Central Scotland and Edinburgh since 2020.
Birth looks different for every family. Whoever you are, whoever your people are, you are welcome here.

‘‘She drove over at 3 am during our false start, stayed with us for hours, and left only when we were settled. She came back when labour properly began. She didn't charge extra. She didn't even mention it.’

What families say about working with Marieke.
"It's hard to put into words the talent, authenticity, friendliness, and professionalism of Marieke."
I am so in love with the birth photos she captured. It was a relief knowing that we only had to focus on our baby and she would take care of all the photos. Marieke takes the time to learn about your family, your pregnancy and birth plans. She was with us for so many hours — patient and ready to experience the day wherever it took us. We would 100% recommend birth photography and Marieke to everyone.
Birth photography"She manages to capture ordinary moments and make them magical."
When I decided on a birth photographer I knew I wanted Marieke before I was even pregnant. Throughout the whole process she was really helpful and friendly. We had a couple of meet-ups before the big day so when it came around I didn't feel like I had a stranger in my house. At all times she was very respectful of myself and my space. You wouldn't even know she was there at times. She was the perfect accompaniment to my birth team. I would highly recommend — you won't regret it!
Birth photography · Full package"When I first saw Marieke's work I knew straight away I wanted to work with her."
We had a zoom call to chat about everything and she made me feel so at ease and listened attentively. She is a wonderful human being and a very talented photographer. Everything was so chill from start to finish — she took time and care to get to know us and what we wanted. I had my maternity shoot at her gorgeous studio at 34 weeks pregnant and the newborn shoot at home when our baby girl was 4 weeks old. The pictures are just gorgeous. I would highly recommend Marieke and all that she does. Thank you lovely!

Let's talk before it does.
I take a very small number of births each year. Dates are booked months in advance. If your due date is on the horizon, the best time to reach out is now.
