None of the photographs are staged. Nothing is altered. What you see is what happened, true documentary style.
Before I enter your birth space, you will know exactly how I work, where I'll stand, and what I will never photograph without asking. I’m the one with the camera in hand, you are the one that is always in total control. That isn't a courtesy. It's the foundation everything else is built on.

Hey hello, I’m Marieke - I always imagined myself working in the world of birth. I once thought that meant becoming a midwife, but life had a different, and truly beautiful, path in mind.
Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of documenting the incredible moments when babies take their first breaths earth side, while also listening to the powerful stories of the parents who brought them here.
Whether it’s at home, on a hospital ward, or in a theatre, every birth is unique, and each one deserves to be documented and remembered.
From Maternity and Birth to Newborn and Nursing, every stage holds something deeply special: a chance for you to see yourself in a new light, with immense respect and awe for your own journey.
Your comfort and story are always my top priority. At the heart of all my work is consent and trust.
I believe that gender is a spectrum. Marieke Captures is inclusive of plurality of femme voices including trans, queer and non-binary people.
