Birth Photographer Glasgow & Central Scotland

Birth asks everything of you. It doesn't matter how many times you've done it, when it's happening, you are completely inside it. Which is exactly why someone else needs to be holding the camera.

The Familiarity Method

Fear in the birth space almost most commonly comes from the unfamiliar. An unfamiliar environment. Unfamiliar faces. Unfamiliar sounds.

I remove one of those unknowns entirely.

Before your birth, we meet as many times as you need. We talk through your birth plan, your hopes, your worries, and the things you haven't said out loud yet. Your maternity session is built into every birth package, not as a bonus, but as the moment your body learns that my camera, my movement and my presence are safe.

By the time you are in labour, you will not be managing me, instead I will be a seamless part of your birth team. Always making sure your story is beautifully documented and held.

What I can Document for You

Birth photography during hospital delivery in Glasgow, Central Scotland

Hospital birth

Whether you birth at the Queen Elizabeth, the Princess Royal, the Royal Infirmary, Forth Valley, Wishaw, Crosshouse or any other hospital across Central Scotland. I work safely within hospital guidelines.

Home birth

There is a particular quality of light and intimacy to a home birth that I love documenting. Your space, your people, your pace. I can attend home births in Glasgow, Ayr, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Stirling and anywhere else in Central Scotland.

Elective caesarean

A caesarean birth is a birth. It deserves the same depth of documentation as any other. I work closely with you and your surgical team beforehand so that everyone in that theatre knows exactly what to expect from me.

‘‘EVERYONE SHOULD

HAVE A BIRTH

PHOTOGRAPHER’’

What's Included

Every birth package includes the following, not as a checklist, but as a commitment:

As many pre-birth consultations as your family needs, a dedicated maternity session to begin our work together, on-call availability from 38 to 42 weeks, 50 to 100 fully edited photographs, a 24-hour preview gallery, and delivery of your full gallery within four weeks.

Flexible Payment Plans

I want this experience to feel accessible and stress-free. That’s why I offer interest-free pre-payment plans for up to 8 months before your due date. Booking in advance allows you to spread your investment into manageable, bite-sized payments, so you can focus on preparing for your baby’s arrival, knowing everything else is taken care of.

The on-call commitment

From 38 weeks, I am on call for you until the little one has arrived.

Day or night. I have sat through false starts, long labours, plans that changed entirely at the last moment. I’m fully committed to your families story.

The best way to understand what this work looks like and to see if this might be something for you, is to read the stories of the families I’ve had the honour of documenting and sharing their stories of.

★★★★★

At the birth, I didn't even notice her near me taking the photos so it was incredible seeing the photos afterwards! They were everything I wanted and more.’’

‘‘Well, where to start?! Marieke is a wonderful person with an amazing talent for photography.
Decided on a birth photographer for the first time for my 4th baby as she's also my last and so glad I did!

From the first message of me enquiring her services, Marieke was quick to respond, friendly and professional- videocall and home visit to meet to talk through her services before deciding to book, she's so friendly she's like an old friend! Aswell as the birth photoshoot I had a maternity photoshoot beforehand at her studio which is beautiful and Marieke welcomed me and my family and made us all feel completely at ease, even when my kids were running riot, and then made me feel amazing when having photos done on my own.

Regarding the birth, Marieke kept in touch on the lead up, came out to us when we had a false start but was happy to leave and come back when things really started. At the birth, I didn't even notice her near me taking the photos so it was incredible seeing the photos afterwards! They were everything I wanted and more. So much so that I got her out for a newborn home shoot not long after the birth!

I will sing her praises and recommend Marieke and her services forever more - capturing this precious time in my life for me to physically look back on is something I'll cherish forever, if you're thinking about hiring a birth photographer, do it!’’

Frequently Asked Questions

  • As early as possible! Ideally between 12 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. Birth packages are limited to four per year to ensure every family receives the full preparation process. If your due date is approaching and you haven't enquired yet, it is always worth getting in touch to check availability.

  • A birth photographer documents your labour, delivery and the first moments after your baby is born. This includes the environment, the people supporting you, the expressions, the quiet moments between contractions, and the first time your baby is placed in your arms. The work begins long before the birth itself, with consultations and a maternity session that are built into every package.

  • This is the question I hear most often, and the one the preparation process is specifically designed to answer. By the time your birth begins, you will have spent real time with me. You will know how I move, where I position myself, and what I will never photograph without asking. Most clients tell me afterwards that they forgot I was there entirely!
